A construction group rooted in Dutch family businesses, where physical construction processes and digital information continually intersect.
The history of VolkerWessels traces back to contractors and family businesses that later became part of the group. Adriaan Volker established himself as a contractor in Sliedrecht in 1854. In 1933, Arend Wessels started a contracting business from his carpentry background.
The group developed through growth and mergers of various construction companies. That history also explains the diversity of operating companies, processes and specialisms. For information provision, this means a landscape in which shared standards and local needs come together.
My work covered both the Azure integration platform and concrete applications: construction logistics with track-and-trace, a GIS data portal, IoT and a materials passport. It was always about connecting systems with work on and around the construction site.
